Hide Window FKEY allows you to quickly “hide” any window from view, without closing it or removing it from memory. This allows you to see, and access, any windows underneath it without having to go through the pain of closing the window and re-opening it.
Unlike System 7’s “Hide Application” command, Hide Window FKEY only hides the active window, leaving the rest of the application’s windows open and ready for view.
After it is installed, Hide Window FKEY is easy to use. Simply type Command-Shift-7, and the active window will disappear from view. You’ll notice, however, that all other windows on the screen remain inactive. You can’t see the window you just hid, but it is still at the “front” of the screen. To bring the window back, type Command-Shift-7 again.
Try an experiment. Go into the Finder, and open a drive’s window. Then open one of that drive’s folders, and then open a folder inside that folder. Do a Command-Shift-7. Now click in the other folder’s window, to make it active. Do something in that window, and then close it. You’ll now have your “hidden” window at the “front” again, even though you can’t see it. Type Command-Shift-7 again to see the window.
To install Hide Window FKEY, simply run the “Install Hide Window” application. It will display no windows or menus; it will just run a few seconds, installing the FKEY resource in the current system file.
NOTE: If any virus checking programs tell you that the Install Hide Window application is attempting to modify the System file, do not be alarmed. FKEYs are miniature programs that must be placed in the System file to run.
Hide Window FKEY is shareware. Hide Window FKEY is not distributed as “crippled.” It does not continually display annoying dialog boxes with my address. And it does not guilt-trip you with quotations from the Bible about ill-gotten goods or ask you to send me a postcard (I hate those.) But it is shareware.
You may use Hide Window FKEY for a period of two weeks, during which time you should decide whether or not it is useful. If you find that it isn’t all that useful, delete it and I won’t mind. If you do like it, however, please send $5 to:
